Coach: Leonard Johnson
Last year: 8-6 overall, 4-1 Region VII-1A
Points scored per game last year: 26.0
Points allowed per game last year: 25.4
Number of offensive starters returning: 6
Number of defensive starters returning: 9
Top players: QB/LB Jarrell Adams (sr.), DL Shane Bennett (sr.), TE Rayquan Georgia (so.), DL Josh Lee (sr.), LB Everett Rendell (sr.), OL Kendrick Thomas (sr.), RB/DB Johnny Williams (jr.), OL Charlie Wright (jr.)
Strengths: The Eagles will be faster and stronger on defense and have nine starters back on that side. The running game won’t suffer too much as four offensive linemen come back. This is the fastest team Johnson has had.
Weaknesses: While the defense will be better, it must work on tackling better. The running backs need game experience. The Eagles need to work on their passing game, but it isn’t a major concern because of how good the running attack should be.
Outlook: The Eagles lost in the state finals last season and have plenty of players back to help get the team back to there for a third straight year. They just can’t get too comfortable and remember what it takes to get there. They aren’t flashy, but are a blue-collar team that must work hard.
